Tyrell currently works to empower young people across Trinidad and Tobago as the Coordinator of the Cropper Foundation's Cari-Bois Environmental News Network.
From attending the UN's Carribean Regional Dialogue on National Biodiversity Strategy and Adaptation Plans he has been able to effectively advocate for greater inclusion of young people in the different UN Environmental Spaces and will use this session to share his tips on how this can effectivley be done.

Tyrell Gittens is a geographer, environmentalist, and journalist from Trinidad and Tobago.
Tyrell holds a BSc (double major) in Geography and Environmental Management as well as an MSc in Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Development from the University of the West Indies (UWI) St Augustine Campus.A journalist since the age of 19, Tyrell has published articles in all three of Trinidad and Tobago's national newspapers and is currently a freelance writer for the UWI St. Augustine, UWI Today Magazine. To date, he has published over 650 articles.Currently a consultant with The Cropper Foundation, Tyrell serves as the Project Coordinator and Editor of the Foundation's Cari-Bois Environmental News Network which has published over 200 environmental articles, and several mini-documentaries, from 7 countries across the Caribbean.In 2023, the initiative hosted its inaugural Youth Environmental Journalism Project and trained a total of eight (8) young people from four (4) rural communities across Trinidad and Tobago.
As Coordinator of Cari-Bois, Tyrell has also planned and hosted over 10 webinars under the initiative’s State of the Environment, Climate Breakdown, and Lunchtime Convos with Cari-Bois, webinar series. Tyrell was a Youth Delegate at the 2022 United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP15) and reported on the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) with Climate Tracker. In March 2024, he attended the Aspen Institute’s 2024 Aspen Climate Ideas event in Miami, Florida and in April 2024, he represented the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) at the UN CBD's Sub-Regional NBSAP Dialogue and Target 3 Workshop.
