This session will feature a screening of “Enraizados” (Our Roots Remain) a short documentary co-produced with The Redford Center, telling the story of Cherán, a P’urhépecha indigenous town in Mexico that successfully resisted illegal logging and achieved self-governance for environmental justice. Following the screening, there will be a Q and A panel with Ivonne Sema, co-director of the film; Fátima Zuñiga, an indigenous environmental advocate from Mexico; and Samuel Rubin, co-founder of the Entertainment and Culture Pavilion. The panel will discuss the power of storytelling in climate action, indigenous environmental stewardship, and how culture can drive environmental resilience.
