A call to action to challenge existing approach to ESG and the triple bottom line – moving away from being emissions-centric to impact centric.
It’s the triple bottom line and not the THREE bottom lines so why are we cherry-picking ESG and the SDGs. Research reveals that being E-focused while neglecting the “S” has caused great detriment to communities and biodiversity – resulting in overall poor governance.
In Africa, we are referred to as Last Mile Communities and yet we are the first port of call when it comes to generating nature-based carbon credits – to attain Net Zero the world needs last mile communities. The Great Green Wall presents a case study for how communities can take charge and empower themselves. It has a population of ~90million people with more than half under the age of 25, and half the agricultural workforce being women.
